The problem

Trend sites die of staleness. A "what's hot right now" page written once is wrong within weeks: products sell out, listings get redirected to different variants, and the trend itself falls off the charts — but the page keeps ranking and keeps sending people to dead links. The question was whether a one-person site could stay honest without a person checking it every day.

How I built it

1

One data file, every page

Products, groups, badges, honest pros and cons and price tiers live in a single JSON file. The picks page, each guide’s recommendation box, the homepage reel and the deal-day page all render from it, so a correction is one edit in one place.

2

A scheduled agent does the checking

Every ten days an automated run opens the Amazon trending page and every existing listing in a real browser, retires what is unavailable or redirected, re-tiers what drifted, adds genuine risers, and redeploys — then reports what it changed and what needs a human decision.

3

Prices as tiers, not numbers

Affiliate rules and honesty both argue against printing prices that go stale in hours. Every product shows a relative tier instead, with the dollar band kept internal for drift checks only.

4

Bespoke imagery without a photographer

A Gemini image pipeline produces a different editorial hero for each guide — a milky-nail macro, a stadium flat-lay, a tablescape — under a hard rule: renders are labeled as illustrations and never passed off as product photos.

5

Adversarial audit before every deploy

A separate agent is told to break each change — compliance, accuracy against the source, rendering — before anything ships. It has caught real defects, including ones I introduced myself.

The outcome

A rotating catalog across beauty, home, style, seasonal and just-for-fun groups, with illustrated guides, refreshed on a schedule at zero hosting cost. An early refresh cycle retired a whole product category whose listings had gone dead and swapped five redirected ASINs before a visitor ever hit them.

What I took from it

The product is the maintenance loop, not the pages. A content site that verifies itself on a schedule, with one source of truth and a second set of eyes before deploy, stays trustworthy in a way a hand-maintained one never will.
